NSW: Worker Airlifted to Hospital After Fall from Silo

A worker of a bulk grain handling firm has sustained serious injuries at a grain terminal in northern New South Wales.

The 56-year-old man was performing maintenance work on the roof of a shed in Willow Tree when he slipped. He fell five metres onto the concrete floor as a result.

Emergency crews quickly responded to the scene, and took the man to a Newcastle hospital by helicopter.

“A 56-year-old Tamworth man had fallen some five metres and he suffered head and shoulder injuries and has been flown to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle in a serious condition,” Barry Waltonhe of the region’s rescue helicopter confirmed.

An internal investigation has been initiated by the company.

WA: WorkSafe probes two workplace deaths in 24 hours

WorkSafe WA is looking into two worksite deaths in the state, which took place in a span of 24 hours.

In Mandurah, a 58-year-old woman was killed after falling at height.

The worker, who was employed by an electrical business, sustained fatal head injuries following the fall from a roof.

According to police, there was nothing suspicious about the circumstances surrounding her death.

The second investigation pertains to the death of a Bonnie Rock man who was involved in a vehicle accident.

The 71-year-old man was killed after swerving his car off his driveway to avoid a stray sheep. The vehicle rolled in a ditch as a result.

He was the only occupant of the car.

A WorkSafe spokesperson said the safety watchdog investigates all serious workplace injuries and deaths to prevent similar incidents in the future.
