SES volunteer dies in fire station freak accident

A State Emergency Service volunteer and bush mechanic was killed in a freak accident in Central Queensland when a fire truck ran over him while he was underneath it, supposedly working on the truck’s chassis.

According to Ninemsn, the incident happened Friday night at around 6.30pm at a Theodore fire station, 170km west of Bundaberg. Station crews were about to respond to a call –out while the victim was underneath the vehicle. The truck was accidentally reversed over him.

Queensland Fire and Rescue Service Acting Commissioner Iain McKenzie said that the officers involved in the incident are being offered counselling.

The incident is being investigated by police authorities, the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service, and Workplace Health and Safety Queensland.
