Simon Ridge has been appointed the new Director of Mine Safety in Western Australia following the retirement of Malcolm Russell who filled the role for 10 years.
Simon, State Mining Engineer, has been pivotal in the recent mine safety reforms in WA that established a cost recovery system that means additional money for the provision of mine safety inspectors.
He will continue with his role as a State Mining Engineer while filling the mine safety role.
Norman Moore, the Mines and Petroleum Minister, said that the WA Government is dedicated to revamping the way that health and safety is regulated in the resources industry.
