Latest figures from Safe Work Australia show as at 22 December, 173 Australian workers have been killed at work in 2017. In 2016, 182 Australian workers died on the job. Transport remains one of the most dangerous industries in Australia with 65 fatalities so far.
Forty-six workers in the Agriculture, forestry & fishing industry have been killed at work this year. The industry recorded a total of 44 fatalities in 2016.
The construction industry has so far recorded 30 fatalities; while 8 workers in the Arts & recreation services industry have so far been killed on the job.
Other industries that have recorded fatalities this year include Manufacturing-6 fatalities and Public administration & safety-5 fatalities. Others include Mining and Electricity, gas, water & waste services- each three fatalities and Accommodation & food services-2 fatalities.
Each of the following industries has recorded 1 fatality- Rental, hiring & real estate services, Financial & insurance services, Healthcare & social assistance, Wholesale trade and Retail trade.
