A young man has been taken to hospital after suffering serious injuries in a farming incident on Wednesday night.

The incident occurred in Dalby, Queensland, approximately 210 kilometres west of the state capital, Brisbane.

According to reports, the man sustained severe injuries to his abdomen after being run over by plant machinery.

Initially, the man had been taken to a Dalby hospital but was later airlifted to a Toowoomba hospital in a stable condition.

According to a March 2013 Safe Work Australia report on Work-related injuries and fatalities on Australian farms, a survey of Agriculture workers in 2009–10 found 17 400 had incurred a work-related injury or illness in the previous 12 months. This equates to 56.4 injuries per 1000 workers which is slightly lower than the all industries rate of 57.9.

Approximately 4400 workers on farms were hospitalised for a work-related injury in the three-year period from July 2006 to June 2009. This is 6% of all workers who were hospitalised.
