Traffic worker killed on Sunshine Coast road

A traffic controller has died after being struck by a car while directing traffic around roadworks on the Sunshine Coast.

The incident happened on the Bruce Hwy Monday night.

Ken Altoft, 56, was on traffic control duty between Forest Glen and the Sunshine Coast Motorway at around midnight when the incident happened, the Sunshine Coast Daily reports.

The driver of the car suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital for treatment.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash.

  1. I am a traffic controller and people need to read the signs and take care and slow down when coming near the traffic controller or going to the other end of the work area. Today many people slowed down but others kept the foot down!
