Man in hospital after wood cutting incident in western Victoria

A man was seriously injured after he reportedly became trapped under a tree branch in western Victoria.

The man was cutting wood on Saturday morning when the incident happened.

Police and emergency services were called to the scene, about 25km north-east of Warrnambool, at about 1am.

The man suffered serious head and chest injuries and was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital shortly before 8am.

He was said to be in a stable condition in hospital Monday morning.
