Workers are urged to “stay safe at work so you can come home to the jobs that need you the most”.

This is the message of WorkSafe Victoria ahead of the Jobs At Home Day campaign, which encourages employers and workers to have conversations about safety at work so they can get home at the end of the day to do the things their loved ones rely on them to do.

Now in its fifth year, the campaign aims to influence safety discussion among workers by celebrating special jobs they do when they get home from work. People are encouraged to create their own free Jobs at Home Day badge listing their most important job at home and wear it to work during the Jobs at Home Day on Friday, 8 December.

“Whether it be Chief Couch Warmer, Share House Film Critic, Bedtime Story Teller or Resident Fashion Adviser, the jobs we do at home for those we love are often the most important,” said WorkSafe Chief Executive Clare Amies.

“Tragically, 21 people have died in Victorian workplaces so far this year and they have left behind grieving families, friends and work colleagues.

“It can never be acceptable that anyone died at work, and discussions about health and safety should be an important part of every workplace every day.

“We hope thousands of people create a badge, wear it on Jobs At Home Day and use it to start conversations about workplace safety.”

Finance Minister Robin Scott said it is during this time of the year when people often rush to finish projects before Christmas break.

“This is a very busy time of the year with people often rushing to get jobs done before the Christmas break, and health and safety may not be at the forefront of people’s minds,” he said.

Mr. Scott urged everyone to participate in the Jobs at Home Day campaign.

“The Jobs at Home Day campaign is asking people to take time at work to talk about safety, and to discuss what steps can be taken to ensure people get home safely from work, every day,” he said.
