The Tasmanian Government is providing $150,000 over three years to assist the Tasmanian Seafood Industry Council (TSIC) to promote maritime safety.

Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier Rene Hidding said TSIC will use the grant funding to implement policies to improve safety for workers in both the commercial fishing and marine farming sectors.

“There is no stronger supporter of the Tasmanian seafood industry and those who work within it than the Hodgman Liberal Government, and we want to ensure that seafood industry workers come home safe at the end of the day,” Mr. Hidding said.

“This TSIC project will support safe working environments for employees who dedicate their working lives to this vital Tasmanian industry.

“Tasmania‚Äôs seafood sector makes an important contribution to the Tasmanian economy, is a key part of our international reputation for producing high-value food and is a significant job provider in regional areas around the State.

“This is just another example of the Hodgman Liberal Government delivering on our commitments to improve the lives of Tasmanians.”
