Workplace fatality figures updated


Latest figures from Safe Work Australia show 95 Australian workers have been killed at work since the beginning of this year.

Agriculture, forestry & fishing industry has so far recorded the highest number of workplace deaths, with 29 fatalities. Transport, postal & warehousing workplaces have recorded 27 fatalities so far. Nineteen Construction workers have lost their lives in work-related incidents this year, according to the latest figures.

The manufacturing industry has so far recorded 7 fatalities, while mining has seen 5 fatalities. Electricity, gas, water & waste services and Wholesale Trade have each 2 fatalities, the figures show.

Other workplaces with fatalities include Administrative & support services, Arts & recreation services, Public administration & safety and Rental, hiring & real estate services each one fatality.

In 2017, preliminary data from Safe Work Australia show 191 Australian workers were killed at work, compared with 182 workers in 2016.
