Safe Work Australia has released a new Guide to Managing Risks of Exposure to Carcinogens in the Workplace.
The guide provides information on how to manage health and safety risks associated with the storage, handling, use and disposal of chemical carcinogens in the workplace.
It explains specific duties related to prohibited or restricted carcinogens under work health and safety laws and supplements existing guidance on managing risks associated with hazardous chemicals.
Carcinogens are defined as substances that can cause cancer. Some well-known carcinogens include asbestos, silica dust, environmental (or second-hand tobacco smoke, diesel engine exhaust, and wood dust.
