Latest figures from Safe Work Australia show 83 Australian workers have been killed at work since the beginning of 2018. The figures show Agriculture, forestry & fishing industry has so far recorded the highest number of workplace fatalities, with 26 deaths.
With 24 workplace fatalities, the Transport, postal & warehousing industry comes second, while Construction with 14 fatalities holds third place.
The manufacturing industry has so far recorded 6 fatalities, Mining 5 fatalities, and wholesale 3 fatalities. Others include Electricity, gas, water & waste services 2 workplace deaths, Administrative & support services, Arts & recreation services and Rental, hiring & real estate services each one fatality.
These figures are based on initial media reports and are a preliminary estimate of the number of people killed while working. Safe Work Australia said once the appropriate authority has investigated the death, more accurate information becomes available from which details of the incident are updated.
