Two mine workers injured after being struck by falling material

New South Wales’ Resources Regulator is currently investigating an incident at Clarence Colliery, near Lithgow in the Central West of NSW in which a piece of coal dislodged and struck two workers.

One of the workers suffered multiple fractures. The other worker suffered neck and shoulder injuries. They were both treated at the scene and brought to a hospital for surgeries. One of the victims, a 26-year-old man was released Wednesday night.

A spokesperson for their employer said family members have been offered support.

“Family members have been notified and offered support,” the company said in a statement as quoted by Lithgow Mercury.

“Our immediate priority is the safety and wellbeing of our people. An investigation into the incident is under way.”

Two inspectors attended the incident and the site is currently under a non-disturbance notice.
