A truck driver luckily survives after his haul truck reversed over a bench and rolled down a dump at Rio Tinto’s Hunter Valley Operations.

According to reports, the haul truck driver managed to escape his vehicle which reportedly reversed over a bench and rolled down a dump. He was immediately taken to a hospital where he was treated for a shoulder injury but in stable condition. The truck driver was eventually released from the hospital.

The management of the mine took this incident seriously and a full investigation was started in order to identify any measures that can reduce the chances of having the same incident from happening in the future.

On May 14th 2011, a truck driver was also hurt after he allegedly fell asleep at the wheel before his shift was about to end causing his truck to collide with another heavy vehicle. This incident prompted the implementation of the SmartCap which is seen to manage the fatigue among drivers thus reducing the occurrence of similar incidences.
