Underground mining operations have been prohibited at a coal mine in NSW.
The prohibition notice was issued following an incident on Saturday where a mine worker was struck on the lower leg by a piece of coal which fell from the upper section of the rib. The worker fractured his fibula because of the incident.
Inspectors inspected the underground scene on Monday and identified issues in relation to the apparent failure of fiberglass bolts in multiple areas, which resulted in the immediate issuing of a notice prohibiting mining in the area.
The prohibition notice will be implemented until a detailed investigation into the cause and circumstances of the incident has been completed, and the Resources Regulator is satisfied that appropriate risk controls have been put into place to ensure workers at the mine are not exposed to risk.
