WorkSafe Victoria lays charges over swim school injury

A Government agency and a private swim centre operator are facing charges following an incident in which a primary school student was seriously injured during swimming lessons in November 2016.

According to WorkSafe Victoria, the agency faces one charge of breaching the OHS Act in that it failed to ensure that students were not exposed to risks to their health and safety arising out of a school-sanctioned swimming program.

The private swim centre faces one charge of breaching the OHS Act in that it failed to ensure that the swimming centre was safe and without risks to health.

The charges were filed in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday and the matter will be listed for hearing in Ballarat.
