Two men hospitalised after chemical spill

Two men were rushed to a hospital Saturday following a chemical spill at a recycling centre, 10 km southwest of Wollongong.

The men sustained severe burns following the Saturday morning incident.

Responding paramedics treated the men at the scene before transporting them to Wollongong Hospital for further treatment.

Under the WHS Act, a person conducting a business or undertaking has the primary duty to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, that the health and safety of workers and other persons are not put at risk from work carried out as part of the conduct of the business or undertaking.

This includes ensuring the safe use, handling, and storage of substances. identifying risk of physical or chemical reaction of hazardous chemicals and ensuring the stability of hazardous chemicals, correct labelling of containers and pipework and provision of spill containment system for hazardous chemicals if necessary.
