September fatality figures released

Safe Work Australia has released the September 2017 monthly notifiable fatality report. The report shows there were 12 work-related notifiable fatalities during September 2017.

The report provides a national summary of work-related traumatic fatalities that were notifiable to Australian work health and safety jurisdictions.

During September 2017, eight male workers and four male bystanders were killed.

Four of these fatalities were as a result of a vehicle incident —air crash and three were from vehicle incident on a public road.

The report shows two of these fatalities were as a result of a fall from a height and another two resulted from a vehicle incident not on a public road. The remaining one fatality was due to another type of incidence.

According to the report, five fatalities occurred in Transport, postal & warehousing workplaces, two each in Agriculture, forestry & fishing and Education & training workplaces, and one each in Construction, Arts & recreation, and Manufacturing workplaces.
