A young girl is nursing serious leg and chest injuries after being hit by a tractor in northeast Victoria on Saturday morning.
Paramedics arrived at the property in Whorouly, approximately 275 kilometres northeast of the state capital, Melbourne, after reports, a toddler had been injured in an incident involving a tractor.
The girl was treated at the scene before being flown to a Melbourne hospital in a stable condition.
Reports indicate the tractor was reversing when the incident occurred.
Safe Work Australia’s Work-related injuries and fatalities on Australian farms, March 2013 report shows that over the eight year period from 1 July 2003 to 30 June 2011, 93 workers (26% of farm deaths) died in incidents involving a tractor. This equates to 11 workers being killed each year while working with or around a tractor.
