Branch strikes firefighter tackling Hunter blaze

A firefighter has been injured after he was struck by a falling tree branch in the NSW Hunter Valley.

According to reports, the man was battling a large bushfire on Tuesday afternoon when the incident happened.

The man suffered head and chest injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics before a rescue helicopter arrived.

He was flown to a hospital in Newcastle for treatment.
