WorkSafe is to unveil an advertising campaign in an attempt to reduce fatal accidents in Victorian workplaces.
Twenty-three Victorians died at work in 2010.
Even with increased awareness in recent years of the importance of a safe working environment, the figure is just below the yearly average since 2001.
A further 29,000 Victorians were injured at work last year.
It is a not a luxury or a privilege to be safe at work – it is each employee’s right.
WorkSafe health and safety executive Ian Forsyth says that it’s too late to make sure your workplace is safe once an employee has been killed.
Workplaces must be responsible for the safety of their employees, but it’s up to each worker to stand up and take responsibility too.
