Health and safety efforts recognised on Australia Day

Work health and safety achievers were some of this year’s Australia Day Honours recipients. Honours were given to people from different areas of expertise.

Brian Joseph O’Connor (NSW) has been awarded a Member of the Order of Australia for his significant service to the petroleum transport industry through emergency response safety training, and to the community of Yass.

Mark Andrew Brimble (QLD) has been awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for his service to the community through the promotion of safety for cruise line passengers.

Dr Barry James Chesson (WA) has been awarded a Member of the Order of Australia for his significant service to the community in the field of occupational health science, to professional associations, and to tertiary education.

Margaret Catharine Darton (VIC) has been awarded a Public Service Medal for outstanding public service through contributions to state and national food policy and safety regulation, to dairy food research, and to strategic development and investment.

The Australia Day 2016 Honours List provides national and formal recognition for people across Australia who have made a significant impact on their communities. More details about the awardees and accompanying media notes can be accessed on the Governor-General’s website.
